OUR COLLECTION THIS WEEK:
BISHOP HENDERSON SCHOOL FOR THEIR TOILET TWINNING SCHEME
Toilet Twinning funds the work of international relief and development
agency Tearfund. Your donation will be used to provide clean water, basic
sanitation, and hygiene education. This vital combination works together to
prevent the spread of disease. Children are healthier, and able to go to
school; parents are well enough to work their land and grow enough food
to feed their family. With better health, and more ability to earn a living,
men and women discover the potential that lies within them to bring
transformation.
“And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid;
you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” Luke 12:7 NLT

full–time staff and dozens of volunteers work alongside the 11,000 people
who spend time in our residential centre every year.

SOUP LUNCH
With the return of
the cold weather,
come along and warm your cockles
with us for a lovely warming bowl of
homemade soup.
Not only is it a great time for
fellowship and to bring along a friend
but the proceeds also go towards
the Hall refurbishment. There are
still many jobs to do such as painting
and decorating the Hall to make it
look fresh and appealing.
Please come along and support us,
where I believe there will be some
cards to buy as well as the wonderful
bowls of soup!

OUR ADVENT ARTIST
The Taunton United Reformed
Church will begin opening the
windows on their new Advent
calendar on Sunday 27th November. But this calendar will be
a giant one, featuring a new picture
each day, visible from the street
outside and lit up at night. Watch as
the days go by and Mary and Joseph
travel through the Somerset
landscape.
Come and see this Advent calendar
change as new pictures by our very
own, wonderful artist, Norman Steel
are revealed as we come closer to
Christmas.
CITIZENS UK IN TAUNTON
Over the past months, James, Stuart
Gunn and Carole Smith have been
attending meetings, together with
representatives from many other
churches and groups to explore
setting up Citizens UK in Taunton.
It has been chaired by Bishop Ruth
using her past experience working
with Citizens UK and also has David
Maggs, the Diocesan Social Justice
Advisor.
We quickly became involved working
with the local Councils to help
provide a welcome and ingoing
support for the Syrian refugee
families coming to Taunton as part of
the Government funded scheme to
bring vulnerable refugee families to
the UK.
We now have 3 families here in
Taunton with another 4 coming next
year and our volunteers have
helped in settling them in and
becoming familiar with the area.
At a recent meeting attended by
Stuart and Carole, SCC who
arranged this work, expressed
their gratitude to the group and
said how tremendously impressed
by the commitment shown by the
group they were.
They pointed out further help that
will be required such as needing
volunteers with experience of
teaching English as a foreign
language and volunteers (perhaps
retired teachers) who could help
with practice.
Volunteers are needed to enable
members of the families to go on
occasional outings or visits or even
just help practically with transport to
the GP’s or hospital.
If any member of St George’s feels
led to help these refugee families in
any way, please speak to James,
Carole or Stuart who can then put
you in touch with the relevant
Council Officers to explore
opportunities.
Thank you.
