Sightsavers want avoidable blindness to be eliminated. They want equality for people with disabilities. They help blind people to see again, and prevent people from going blind wherever they can. They improve the lives of people with disabilities, particularly those who have permanent sight loss. They want to change the lives of people at risk of sight loss for the long term, not just today. So they campaign to make the world a fairer place for people with disabilities and tackle the underlying causes of avoidable blindness
SKIPPING’ IN THE RAIN!
Many Thanks to all who helped to clear the church compost area this sodden week. The skip was full in no time, and the compost heaps look tidier and healthier again. From now on a concerted effort will be made by churchyard gardeners to create some lovely compost, and allotment holders to use it for their lovely veg!

FANCY A FESTIVE SOUP??
Come and join us to warm your cockles with us for a lovely warming bowl of homemade soup.
A great time for festive fellowship and to bring along a friend but the proceeds also go towards the Hall refurbishment. We are hoping to paint and decorate the Hall over Christmas so funds are really needed!
Please come along and support us for some festive cheer, cards and wonderful bowls of soup!

A NEW YEAR RESOLUTION?
Would you like to do some guided reading of the Bible each day?
The notes from the Bible Reading Fellowship make it interesting and enjoyable. In some series the Bible passage is printed alongside the commentary each day,so you don’t even have to find your place in the Bible!
The chosen passages follow a theme, usually for one or two weeks, and the writers are from a range of church backgrounds, giving variety and new insights.
A number of people at St George’s use and enjoy the notes, and I would be happy to order some for you as well giving you the advantage of getting them post-free.
There are several different types ,so please have a look at the samples in the pink folders under the tower, and take one away and try it out,or have a word with me or someone else about how they enjoy the notes.
The order for May 2017 needs to be in during February, and I will be displaying the booklets after coffee on Sunday morning in January. Standard –sized booklets covering four months cost £4.40 per copy; payment for the year will be £13.20.
Go on – give them a try!
MOTHERS’ UNION MEETING Tuesday 6th December 2.15 – 4.00pm at St Michael’s Church.
Do join us for our Advent Service and Christmas Fun afternoon – including a ‘Festive Tea’!
Also, “The last knitting bee of 2016 will be held at Ann Hall’s home 8 Manor Close on Wednesday 7th December 2.00-4.00 pm.”
Just to remind you all that we are still in need of help for this busy season here at St George’s. Can you help with any of the following?
● Decorating the Church on Saturday 17th December.
● Carol Service
A Refreshments Team to serve mince pies and mulled wine after the Carol Service. Donations of mince pies would also be very much appreciated.
● Christingle Service
A Christingle Making Team to come along on Friday 23rd December to the Dunning Room to prepare all the Christingles for Christmas Eve.
Please could you contact the Church Office and let us know if you can help with any of those tasks. We’d be so very grateful.
ST GEORGE’S CHRISTMAS SERVICES LEAFLET
Our 2016 Christmas Services Leaflet will be ready to be delivered out across the parish next week. If you are one of our wonderful route links, please could you take your appropriate route bag and pop the leaflets through the doors on your list so that our parishioners all know when our Christmas Services will be.
For non-church goers, Christmas is possibly the only time of the year that they will come through the doors, more so than Easter, so we want to be able to welcome as many people as we can to St George’s.
Hopefully we shall have our church bursting with people again at our festive services this year!
